Brisbane & South-East Queensland
If you live in Brisbane and you are considering a hair transplant, our specialist clinic on the Gold Coast is around 70 minutes from the CBD. We offer doctor-led Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in a private, purpose-equipped facility at 86 Ashmore Rd, Bundall — a dedicated hair restoration clinic where AHPRA-registered doctors personally perform every procedure.
A growing number of Brisbane residents are making the short trip south for their hair transplant. The reason is straightforward: rather than visiting a larger city practice that offers hair transplants alongside dozens of other cosmetic procedures, they choose a clinic that focuses exclusively on hair restoration, where the doctors who assess them are the same doctors who perform the surgery.
This page explains what we offer, how to plan the trip from Brisbane, and what to expect before, during and after your procedure.
Why Brisbane patients choose our Gold Coast clinic
Brisbane has a number of clinics that offer hair transplants, many of them large multi-service practices that also perform body contouring, injectables, skin treatments and a range of other procedures. Hair transplantation is one line on a long menu. There is nothing inherently wrong with that model, but it is worth understanding how a specialist clinic differs.
At Gold Coast Hair Transplant, hair restoration is all we do. Our doctors — Dr Alexander Brooks and Dr Ranadi Vincent — are AHPRA-registered medical practitioners who have trained specifically in FUE hair transplantation. Dr Brooks trained under Professor Akaki Tsilosani, one of the world’s most respected hair restoration surgeons, and is an Associate Member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).
Critically, our doctors personally perform every extraction and every graft placement. This is not a clinic where a doctor designs the hairline, steps out of the room and delegates the surgical work to a team of technicians. Your doctor is present and active for the entire duration of the procedure. That distinction matters, because the skill of the person placing each graft directly affects the angle, direction and density of the result.
Before any treatment plan is proposed, we use TrichoLAB — a diagnostic imaging platform that produces detailed, data-driven analysis of your scalp and donor area. Rather than relying on a rough visual estimate of how many grafts you need, your doctor works from high-resolution measurements of follicle density, hair calibre and scalp condition. The result is a treatment plan that is precise, personalised and grounded in objective data.
Getting to our clinic from Brisbane
Our clinic at 86 Ashmore Rd, Bundall is straightforward to reach from Brisbane. There are two main options:
By car — approximately 70 minutes
The most common route is south via the M1 Pacific Motorway. From Brisbane CBD, head south on the Pacific Motorway (M1) through Eight Mile Plains, Springwood and Coomera. Take the exit for Southport / Ashmore Road (Exit 69) and follow Ashmore Road east. The clinic is on the left-hand side, approximately two kilometres from the motorway exit. The drive is around 70 minutes outside of peak hour. During morning peak (roughly 7–9 am), allow an additional 15–20 minutes.
Private on-site parking is available at no charge. The car park is directly adjacent to the clinic entrance.
By train — approximately 90 minutes
The Gold Coast line runs from Brisbane Central and Roma Street stations to Nerang station, which is the closest station to our clinic. The train journey takes approximately 80 minutes. From Nerang station, the clinic is about a ten-minute taxi or rideshare trip. We recommend arranging transport from the station rather than walking, as the route between the station and the clinic is not pedestrian-friendly.
If you are staying overnight on the Gold Coast (which we recommend on procedure day), you may also find it convenient to take the train down and arrange a rideshare for shorter trips during your stay.
Understanding FUE hair transplantation
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a modern hair transplant technique that involves removing individual hair follicles from the donor area — usually the back and sides of the scalp, where hair is genetically resistant to the hormonal changes that cause pattern hair loss — and transplanting them into areas of thinning or baldness.
Unlike older strip-harvesting methods (known as FUT), FUE does not involve a linear incision across the back of the head. There are no stitches and no strip scar. Instead, each follicular unit is extracted individually through a tiny circular punch, leaving extraction sites that heal to become virtually invisible. This makes FUE particularly appealing for patients who want the flexibility to wear their hair short.
The transplanted follicles are placed into carefully prepared recipient sites in the thinning area. Your doctor controls the angle, direction and depth of each placement to produce a result that matches the natural growth pattern of your existing hair. The goal is hair that looks, falls and moves naturally — so that the transplant is undetectable.
FUE is performed under local anaesthesia. You are awake and comfortable throughout the procedure, and most patients find the experience significantly more tolerable than they expected. A typical session runs between six and eight hours, depending on the number of grafts being transplanted. You can learn more about the technical details on our FUE Hair Transplant page.
Planning your procedure day from Brisbane
If you are travelling from Brisbane for your procedure, a small amount of planning makes the day run smoothly. Here is what we recommend:
The day before: If possible, travel to the Gold Coast the evening before your procedure and stay overnight near the clinic. This avoids a very early start on the morning of the procedure and means you arrive rested. Bundall and the surrounding suburbs — Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Southport — offer accommodation at every price point, from budget motels to serviced apartments.
Procedure day: You will typically arrive at the clinic in the morning. The procedure runs for approximately six to eight hours, with breaks built in for meals and rest. You are awake throughout and can listen to music, watch something on a tablet or simply relax. After the procedure, you are free to leave. We will go through initial aftercare instructions and answer any immediate questions.
The night after: We strongly recommend staying on the Gold Coast the night of your procedure. You will have local anaesthesia wearing off, and while there is minimal pain, you will want to rest rather than sit in a car for over an hour. We schedule a follow-up review the next morning to check the grafts and walk through your aftercare routine in detail.
Heading home: After your next-morning review, you are free to drive back to Brisbane. Most patients find that a two-night stay (arriving the evening before, staying the night of the procedure, heading home the following afternoon) is the most comfortable approach. For a detailed overview of the entire process, see our Your Journey page.
Recovery for travelling patients
One of the most common questions from Brisbane patients is how recovery works when you are not local to the clinic. The short answer is that FUE recovery is straightforward, and distance does not create significant complications.
In the first few days after the procedure, you can expect mild swelling and redness in the treated areas, along with tiny scabs at the graft sites. These typically resolve within seven to fourteen days. Most patients return to desk-based work within three to five days, and light exercise can usually resume after about two weeks. Our Recovery Guide provides a detailed timeline.
For Brisbane patients, we structure follow-up to minimise unnecessary travel. Your next-morning review happens in person at the clinic. After that, many routine check-ins and questions can be handled by phone or video call. If an in-person review is needed at a later stage, we will schedule it at a time that works for you, and the drive is the same straightforward 70 minutes down the M1.
The transplanted hairs will shed within the first few weeks — this is entirely normal and expected. New growth begins around month three, with noticeable improvement from month six onward. The full result continues to develop for twelve to eighteen months. You can read more about the growth timeline on our Results page.
Non-surgical hair loss treatments
A hair transplant is not the right solution for everyone. Some patients are better served by non-surgical treatments, either as a standalone approach or in combination with a future transplant procedure.
Medical management with prescription medications can slow or stabilise pattern hair loss by addressing the hormonal mechanisms that cause follicle miniaturisation. For patients in the earlier stages of hair loss, medical management may be sufficient to maintain their existing hair without surgery.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is another non-surgical option. PRP involves concentrating growth factors from your own blood and injecting them into the scalp to stimulate hair follicle activity. PRP can be used on its own or alongside a transplant to support graft survival and the health of existing hair.
During your consultation, your doctor will discuss whether non-surgical options are appropriate for your situation. If a transplant is not the right choice — whether because your hair loss is still progressing rapidly, your donor supply is limited, or because a less invasive approach would serve you better — your doctor will tell you directly.
Why not go overseas?
Many Brisbane patients research hair transplants in Turkey, Thailand and other overseas destinations, attracted by prices that can be a fraction of Australian costs. We understand the appeal, and we are not here to suggest that every overseas clinic does poor work — some are excellent.
However, there are practical considerations that are worth weighing carefully. In Australia, your procedure is performed by an AHPRA-registered doctor — a practitioner who is subject to the regulatory oversight of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. That oversight includes mandatory qualifications, continuing professional development, advertising standards and a formal complaints process. If something goes wrong, you have a clear path to resolution.
Overseas, regulatory standards vary enormously, and due diligence is significantly harder from the other side of the world. The doctor-to-technician ratio is often very different from what patients expect, and follow-up care requires either another international trip or finding a local doctor willing to manage complications from a procedure they did not perform.
Our clinic is 70 minutes from Brisbane. Your follow-up appointments are straightforward. If you have a concern at any point during the twelve-to-eighteen-month growth cycle, you can be back in front of your doctor the same week. Questions Brisbane patients commonly ask
How long does it take to drive from Brisbane to your Gold Coast clinic?
The drive from Brisbane CBD to our Bundall clinic typically takes around 70 minutes via the M1 Pacific Motorway. Outside of peak hour, the trip is straightforward and mostly motorway driving. We are located at 86 Ashmore Rd, Bundall, with private on-site parking available at no charge.
Can I take the train from Brisbane to your clinic?
Yes. The Gold Coast line runs from Brisbane Central and Roma Street stations to Nerang station, which is the closest station to our Bundall clinic. The train takes approximately 80 minutes. From Nerang station, the clinic is about a ten-minute taxi or rideshare trip. We recommend arranging transport from the station rather than walking, as the route is not pedestrian-friendly.
Should I stay overnight on the Gold Coast for my procedure?
We strongly recommend staying overnight on the Gold Coast the night of your procedure. A hair transplant typically runs six to eight hours, and you will want to rest afterwards rather than drive back to Brisbane. We schedule a follow-up review the next morning to check the grafts and go through aftercare instructions in person. Bundall and the surrounding suburbs have a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget.
How many follow-up visits will I need at the clinic?
Most patients attend a review the morning after their procedure and then return for check-ins at intervals agreed with their doctor. For Brisbane patients, we keep in-person follow-ups to the minimum necessary and can handle many routine questions via phone or video call. Your doctor will outline a follow-up schedule tailored to your situation during the consultation.
Why should I travel to the Gold Coast instead of having a hair transplant in Brisbane?
Our clinic specialises exclusively in hair transplantation. Both Dr Alexander Brooks and Dr Ranadi Vincent are AHPRA-registered doctors who personally perform every extraction and every graft placement — the surgical elements of your procedure are never delegated to technicians. We also use TrichoLAB diagnostic imaging for objective, data-driven treatment planning. The 70-minute drive gives you access to a dedicated specialist clinic that focuses entirely on hair restoration.
